Three bored Milanese book editors decide to amuse themselves with an elaborate literary hoax. Their “Plan” links the medieval Knights Templar to centuries of occult groups, weaving history, conspiracy, and myth into a fictional map pointing to the place from which the powers of the earth can be controlled—Foucault’s Pendulum in Paris.
At first, it is all an intellectual game. But when real secret societies catch wind of the Plan, the joke becomes deadly. One of the editors is murdered, and the line between invention and reality dissolves.
As the remaining two race to stay alive, they must confront the dangerous allure of their own creation.
Umberto Eco’s masterpiece is part erudite puzzle, part conspiracy thriller, and entirely unforgettable.
