Tao is an immigrant fortune teller who wanders alone, reading only “small” fortunes to avoid the dangers of larger prophecies. With her mule by her side, she predicts weather, romance, and livestock births—simple things that keep her out of trouble and away from her past.
But when a reformed thief and an ex-mercenary enlist her help to find a missing child, Tao reluctantly agrees. Along the way, they’re joined by a bold baker with a “knead” for adventure and a mischievous, magical cat.
