We tend to gravitate toward war-torn worlds and reluctant heroes. These are protagonists who did not plan on leading rebellions but somehow end up negotiating with gods and discovering inconvenient new powers at the worst possible moment.
High stakes clearly have our attention. There is also a noticeable pattern involving werewolves, witches, ancient curses, and romance that feels like a risk instead of a guarantee.
Our current taste leans intense, romantic, and just unpredictable enough to keep things interesting.
